This impoundment, near the old gold mining town of Bacubirito, Mexico, is filled with a mother lode of double-digit bass. Baccarac's age, structure and depth are all key factors in producing its big bass. The 19-year-old lake was originally stocked with Florida-strain largemouth, which have had plenty of time to grow huge and produce trophy-size offspring as well. The warm climate allows Baccarac bass to grow year-round at an annual rate of 1 1/2 to 2 pounds. The lake has the potential to yield both good numbers and trophy fish in the near future.

Fed by the Sinaloa River, Baccarac's waters spread to about 35,000 acres when full and about 28,000 acres at its lowest level. The impoundment has a maximum depth of about 200 feet. Baccarac contains 76 to 96 islands — depending on the water level — and plenty of standing timber, even at its lowest level. Shoreline bushes and trees become inundated when the lake level rises. BEST LURES & TECHNIQUES — Big fish can be taken shallow throughout the year in the standing timber, especially along points, flats and bluff ends. When the lake is high, the tops of the islands become prime feeding spots for heavyweight bass. Top lures for big bass are spinnerbaits, soft stickbaits and chuggers.

The lake is located on the Sinaloa River, in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, approximately 150 miles southeast of Los Mochis.
