You
will be greeted at the Guatemala City airport and driven to Sailfish Bay
Lodge, a 90 minute drive. The modern four lane highway includes close up
views of three volcanoes, two of which are active. The next morning your
fishing experience begins! Don't speak Spanish? No problem, we are
bilingual and the fishing package is run by an American living in
Guatemala.

If
you've ever dreamed of catching a 100lb sailfish on fly, it's time to
discover Guatemala! With our year round abundant sailfish population, you
will have more opportunities for hook-ups than anywhere in the world. Our
experienced captains and mates can help the knowledgeable or teach the
novice fly fisher the art of fly fishing for billfish. Or try catching
dorado on fly, a great fighter and challenge to your angling skills.
FLY
FISHING EQUIPMENT:
We
carry Stu Apte Signature Series Diamondback and Abel fly rods and reels.
We have 10 weights for dorado and 12/13 weights for billfish. We recommend
Cam Sigler's "Pink Squid" tube fly and our most successful color
is pink and white. If rigging them yourselves, 6/0 hooks are preferred.
When sailfish are less aggressive on the surface, we suggest a partially
sinking streamer style fly, pink and white with the same size hook.
We use
two types of fly line:
*Wulff Bermuda Triangle Taper Saltwater SWTB12F
*Cortland Tropic Plus Lazor Line (Billfish) with a Int. Clear Sink Tip -
WF13
Tippet
strength is your choice but we suggest 20lb. If you don't want to
purchase fly
equipment we rent our equipment for $30 pp per day including flies.
