Guatemala Fishing Report
March 1 - Marc raised 23 sailfish on Che Cito and
released 4 on fly.
The Sory group raised 10 sailfish and released 3 on fly.
The Sullivan group raised 25 sailfish and released 8 conventional.
Bob Baesel returned to Sailfish for the 2nd time and brought with him
Tim Duncan. They raised 14 sailfish on Sirena and released 7
conventional.
March 2 - The Baesel group raised 56 sailfish and released 18
conventional.
Johnny and Sandy Wallace arrived at SBL. Fishing on Mariner they raised
40 sailfish and released 21 convetional.
Peter DeBaun and Sabrina Carhart arrived at Sailfish Bay. Fishing on Che
Cito they raised 23 sailfish and released 2 on fly rods. They also
caught 2 dorado.
March 3 - Johnny and Sandy raised 32 sailfish on Mariner and released 19
conventional.
Peter and Sabrina raised 20 sailfish on Che Cito and released 0 on fly.
March 4 - Johnny and Sandy raised 30 sailfish on Mariner and released 13
conventional.
Peter and Sabrina raised 23 sailfish on Che Cito and released 6 on fly
today!
March 5 - Peter and Sabrina raised 26 sailfish on Che Cito and released
another 4 on fly today.
March 6 - Peter and Sabrina raised 22 sailfish on Che Cito and released
4 more on fly!
The Rhodes group returned to Sailfish Bay for the 2nd year in a row. The
party included Jimmy, Carl, and Aubry Rhodes, Tony Farrell, Richard
Marshal, Jay Murray, Bill Easler, and Zane Christopher.
Fishing on Bora Bora The Rhodes group raised 39 sailfish and released 18
conventional.
Fishing on Drop It The Rhodes group raised 23 sailfish and released 8
conventional.
Arriving for the 4th year in a row are fly fishers Don Langrock and Jim
Tanaka. Fishing aboard Sirena they raised 27 sailfish and released 4 on
fly.
Also arriving for the Guatemala fishing action were Elvita and Larry
Engelgau and Lee and Linda Harrington. Fishing on Mariner the group
raised 30 sailfish and released 12 conventional.
March 7 - The Tanaka group raised 18 sailfish on Sirena and released 3
on fly.
The Rhodes group raised 15 sailfish on Drop It and released 10
conventional.
The Rhodes group raised 16 sailfish on Bora Bora and released 11
conventional.
The Engelgau group raised 28 sailfish on Mariner and released 7
conventional.
March 8 - The Tanaka group raised 42 sailfish on Sirena and released 8
on fly!
The Engelgau group raised 9 sailfish on Mariner and released 5
conventional.
Impaired by the fun night before, The Rhodes group decided to fish a
half day. Fishing aboard Drop It the group raised 5 sailfish and
released 5 conventional.
Fishing a 1/2 day The Rhodes group raised 10 sailfish and released 9
conventional.
March 9 - The Tanaka group raised 4 sailfish on Sirena and released 1 on
fly.
The Ted Rathbun party arrived at Sailfish Bay. The group also included
David Jackson, Daniel Jackson, Rick Jackson, Michael Jackson, Brent
Jackson, John Diepersloot, Ron Peters, Walter Tindell, and Scott
Hickman.
Fishing on Stratgos The Rathbun party raised 8 sailfish and released 6
conventional.
Fishing on Mad Bavarian The Rathbun party raised 1 sailfish and released
1 conventional.
Fishing on Cayuco The Rathbun party raised 18 sailfish and released 12
conventional.
Fishing on Mariner The Rathbun party raised 0 sailfish and released 0.
March 10 - Fishing on Bora Bora The Rathbun party raised 3 sailfish and
released 3 conventional.
Fishing on Drop It The Rathbun group released 1 Jack inshore.
Fishing on Mad Bavarian The Rathbun group raised 12 sailfish and
released 9 conventional. They also caught 3 dorado.
Fishing on Cayuco The Rathbun group raised 4 sailfish and released 2
conventional.
Also arriving at Sailfish Bay were Bobby, Dee Dee and and Rob Hunter.
Fishing on Sirena they raised 29 sailfish and released 10 conventional.
March 11 - Fishing on Sirena The Hunter group raised 6 sailfish and
released 5 conventional.
March 13 - Rick Stigliano and Don Duran returned to Sailfish Bay for the
3rd time. They were also joined by Ed Mangie, Richard Stigliano, Chris
Herubin, Sandy Naples, David Muslovski, Jason Kelly, Ron Moomaw, Bob &
Dan Morgenstern, and Rich Linder.
Fishing on Mariner The Stigliano group raised 31 sailfish and released
15 conventional. They also caught two very large 50 lb dorado.
Fishing on Sirena The Stigliano group raised 33 sailfish, releasing 4 on
fly rods and 4 conventional. They also caught 2 bonito.
Fishing on Bora Bora The Stigliano group raised 34 sailfish and released
20 conventional.
Hailing from England we were were happy to welcome John and Vincent
Joyce to Sailfish Bay. Fishing on Mad Bavarian they raised 11 sailfish
and released 6 conventional.
March 14 - Fishing on Mariner The Stigliano group raised 18 sailfish and
released 2 on fly rods. They also caught 7 dorado and 3 Jacks.
Fishing on Sirena The Stigliano group raised 12 sailfish and released 3
on fly.
Fishing on Bora Bora The Stigliano group raised 12 sailfish and released
9 conventional. They also caught two dorado.
Fishing on Mad Bavarian The Joyce group raised 20 sailfish and released
9 conventional. They caught 1 dorado as well.
March 15 - Fishing on Sirena The Stigliano group raised 20 sailfish and
released 3 on fly.
Fishing on Mariner The Stigliano group raised 18 sailfish and released 0
sailfish on fly.
Fishing on Bora Bora The Stigliano group raised 17 sailfish and released
1 on fly.
Fishing on Mad Bavarian The Joyce group raised 20 sailfish and released
10 conventional.
March 16 - The Joyce group raised 27 sailfish and released 10
conventional on Mad Bavarian.
Arriving for his 6th trip to Sailfish Bay was Buck Nichols and he was
joined by Sherry, Dustin, and Ashley Nichols, Christi and Mitchell
Palmer. Fishing on Sirena they raised 28 sailfish and released 14
conventional.
March 17 - The Nichols group raised 36 sailfish and released 14
conventional on Sirena.
The Joyce group raised 7 sailfish on Mad Bavarian and released 2
conventional.
March 18 - The Nichols group raised 8 sailfish on Sirena and released 5
conventional.
The Joyce group raised 7 sailfish on Mad Bavarian and released 4
conventional.
Sabit Acka from Turkey fished one day with us on Mariner and released 2
sailfish.
March 19 - Travis and Daralynn Johnson arrived at Sailfish Bay and
released 13 sailfish conventional on Maverick.
Also arriving at Sailfish Bay were Bill Krake, Kurt Hoppe, Alex Young,
and Richard Zehring. Fishing on Sirena they released 14 sailfish
conventional.
March 20 - The Johnson group raised 10 sailfish on Maverick and released
5 conventional.
The Krake group raised 16 sailfish on Sirena and released 5 sails along
with 1 dorado.
March 21 - The Johnson group raised 16 sailfish on Maverick and released
8 conventional.
The Krake group raised 4 sailfish on Sirena and released 2.
March 23 - Claire Livingston and Greg Long arrived at Sailfish Bay.
Fishing on Maverick they raised 13 sailfish and released 6 conventional.
March 24 - Claire and Greg raised 25 sailfish on Maverick and released 7
conventional - hooking up all sails themselves.
March 25 - Arriving at Sailfish Bay were Donny & Nick McClure. Fishing
on Bora Bora they raised 30 sailfish and released 17 conventional.
March 26 - Claire and Greg raised 35 more sailfish on Maverick and
released 15 conventional. They released 10 of these sailfish on 12-pound
test!
The McClure group raised 29 sailfish on Bora Bora and released 14
conventional. They also nailed one 300 lb Blue marlin.
Arriving at Sailfish Bay were fly fishers William Ludolf, Frank Pond, Al
Ceresa, John Sartorious, James Cooper, Peter Marschalk, Arma Andon, and
Bob Ceresa.
Fishing on Mariner The Ludolph group raised 33 sailfish and released 3
on fly.
Fishing on Sirena The Ludolph group raised 38 sailfish and released 8 on
fly.
Fishing on Mad Bavarian The Ludolph group raised 25 sailfish and
released 1 on fly.
March 27 - Claire and Greg raised 38 sailfish on Maverick and released
10 conventional on 12 and 20 lb test.
The Ludolph group raised 43 sailfish on Mariner and released 2 on fly.
They also raised, hooked, and missed a Blue marlin.
The Ludolph group raised 29 sailfish on Mad Bavarian and released 2 on
fly.
The Ludolph group raised 41 sailfish on Sirena and released 4 on fly.
The McClure group raised 14 sailfish on Bora Bora, releasing 4
conventional and 1 on fly.
March 28 - The Ludolph group raised 26 sailfish on Mad Bavarian and
released 2 on fly.
The Ludolph group raised 24 sailfish on Mariner and released 2 on fly.
The Ludolph group raised 19 sailfish on Sirena and released 2 on fly.
The group is pretty consistent. Also, on Sirena they released a 400 lb.
Blue marlin (not on fly!).
We were happy to welcome Fred Nicholas and his son Harry to SBL. Fishing
on Drop It they raised 12 sailfish and released 5 conventional. They
also caught one 50 lb dorado and 10 tuna. Since young Harry has arrived
at Sailfish Bay he has caught snappers in the canal, a dorado, a
sailfish and a tuna. Quite a fisherman! Good job.
