Fishing in Costa Rica

Costa Rica SunsetVery few destinations on Earth offer the diversity of Costa Rica. With 5 kinds of rainforests, 7 active volcanoes, pristine beaches, world-class Sportfishing, Whitewater Rafting, Hiking, Golf, Canopy Tours, Jungle River Cruises, Diving, Kayaking, Snorkeling and many other activities, Costa Rica has something for everyone.

North Pacific -

This area comprises the province of Guanacaste, famous for its nice beaches. The beaches, scuba diving and surfing here are excellent, and the attitude is "laid-back." Playa Conchal is a spectacular beach and host to the Melia Playa Conchal Resort, which is arguably the best hotel in Costa Rica. Guanacaste is HOT and semi arid: there are no rainforests here! It is also quite remote: about 5-6 hours from San Jose. Tamarindo, Playa Hermosa and Playa Conchal are some of the main points of interest. World class sportfishing and inshore fishing can be found in the region during certain times of the year. Several reputable operators have good boats and crews available, mainly from the Tamarindo/Flamingo area.

Central Pacific -

From Puntarenas to Dominical, the Central Pacific Coast is very accessible, wonderfully scenic and full of a wide variety of activities. Great beaches, surfing and rainforests abound, and the Sportfishing is World-class. Best of all, this area is close to San Jose, which makes it an easy, very pleasant place to visit. It is the region which offers the most variety in things to do and see in one place. The Central Pacific is home to some of the best deep sea fishing in the world. Experience the adrenaline of catching sailfish, dorado, tuna and wahoo on our professionally equipped 44-ft yacht. We're located in the Los Sueños Marina and have been fishing these waters since 1992.

South Pacific -

National Geographic called the Osa Peninsula "the most biologically intense place on Earth," and it remains that way today. Corcovado National Park is a true rainforest wilderness area with Jaguars, Tapirs, and hundreds of bird species. You must fly from San Jose to get there, and it is more expensive than other areas of Costa Rica. Hotels on the Osa Peninsula are not open year round. It's a great area if you have the time and money, but you must plan accordingly. World-class Sportfishing and Inshore fishing can be found on the South Pacific Coast. October - January tend to be the best months for deep-sea fishing, but yellowfin tuna, dorado and wahoo can be found year-round. Inshore fishing in this area is excellent, particularly for roosterfish.
